Common Barrel Sizes

•⁠  19mm creates smaller, tighter curls with lots of texture and hold.
•⁠  ⁠25mm creates defined curls and is a great size for preparing hair for textured upstyles.
•⁠  ⁠32mm creates larger, softer curls and beautiful bridal waves.
•⁠  ⁠38mm creates loose, glamorous waves and soft movement, especially on longer hair.
•⁠  ⁠Conical wand creates different sized curls from root to ends for a softer, more natural finish.
•⁠  ⁠Curling tong with a clamp gives you more control and is great for polished curls and Hollywood waves.
•⁠  ⁠Wand without a clamp is perfect for relaxed, textured and more undone curls.

Which Size Should You Choose?

Think about the hair length, thickness and the final hairstyle you want to create.

Smaller barrels generally create tighter curls with stronger hold, while larger barrels create softer, looser movement.

Remember, the curl is often only the foundation of your hairstyle. We can later brush it out, stretch it, add texture or pin it into an upstyle.

Temperature Matters

Fine, coloured or fragile hair usually needs a lower temperature. Thick or resistant hair may require more heat.

Always use heat protection and avoid using more heat than you actually need.

Ulyana’s Tip - When you are starting, buy one curling wand with different size barrel attachments instead of buying lots of separate curling tools. It will save you money and space in your kit, while still giving you different barrel sizes to practise with and create a variety of bridal looks.
